Ampang Jaya Council Council was established on 1st July 1992 and announced as Bunga Tanjung City on 16th August 1993.

MPAJ lies on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur City and shares its borders with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Selayang Municipal Council and Kajang Municipal Council.
Its area spread within two District Land Offices that is, Hulu Langat and Gombak District, it covers the whole Mukim of Ampang Hulu Kelang and a part of the Mukim of Setapak.
Total administrative area of MPAJ: 14,350 hectres or 35,458.9 acres.
The population within the MPAJ area is estimated to be 574,300 in 2007 (source: Statistics Department) and this constitutes 12.7% of the total population within State of Selangor.
