DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of MIMA’s Research Division consisting of five Research Centres. This includes planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, monitoring and assess all research-related activities
- Develop clear, strategic direction and agenda for MIMA’s research. This includes reviewing existing research themes with the view of ensuring that research projects meet the needs of MIMA’s stakeholders and are aligned to Malaysia’s and MIMA’s aspirations
- Establish and maintain liaison with policy-makers, industry players and relevant parties in the maritime sector
- Monitor, supervise, mentor and assess MIMA’s researchers
- Review research-related activities to ensure timeliness of completion, quality of deliverables and adherence to high standards
- Perform other duties / tasks as directed by the Director General from time to time
Requirements
- PhD in International Relations, Economics, Maritime Law or other maritime-related disciplines. Familiarity with UNCLOS and possession of maritime background would be an advantage
- Minimum 15 years working experience in a research environment and has published extensively
- Firm grasp of research methodologies and research do’s and don’ts
- Strong leadership attributes and management qualities
- Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
- Excellent oral and writing skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
